    random things.
I really like muesli bars, but they're such a waste of packaging. See, told you it was random. I suppose I could learn to make 'em myself, but then I'll have to find a proper container of single-serving size to carry around.

I'm getting increasingly happy with my performance at softball. We didn't win the spring league championship, so we came in 2nd to a team that none of the other teams in our league liked. In fact the general disdain for this team was so strong that other teams turned up at our finals to cheer us on, and to heckle the other team. It also helped that we were in pretty good spirits - we played well, and although we lost, our opponents never so much as cracked a smile. Who plays in a rec league with that sort of attitude?

J's been painting a lot lately, so I don't see him too much for a grad-student couple who mostly work from home. On Saturday we found ourselves with an awful lot of nothing-to-do, so we indulged in going out for a 5-hour walk in the lovely sunshine. Despite SPF 55, I do have an exquisite sunglass-tan on my nose.

    O HAI!

We hung out in the park for a bit. J was trying to read the papers. Have you noticed that every time I take pictures of J, he's in that particular shirt? Terrible stuff.

There was a lovely bee buzzing around us, but you can't do much with a point-and-shoot.

    Movies
We watched The Iron Giant a few days back. It was incredible. Not as good as Miyazaki, but still good, and really heart-warming and sweet.

Finally rented He's Just Not That Into You and watched it last night. Hmm. Fun to watch, but predictable, too long, and I hated J Connelly's character. Most important of all, the gender stereotyping is a shame to watch. It's cute and everything, but there were many moments J and I turned to each other and said, "come on! really??" Gender normativity in this day and age is ridiculous. We've got about 30 years on the "all women are idealistic and romantic and just wanna get married" and "all men just wanna sleep around, and sleep around, and sleep around" shtick. As a result, I was very disappointed [AHEM, SPOILER] when at the end, J Anniston's character accepted the ring and proposal. Come on. That's just pushing that shit too far.

I also didn't like the way relationships were portrayed like games or a competition. In almost every pairing there was a sense of a winner and a loser. Stop perpetuating relationship myths already. So much rubbish.

But ok, good to watch. And Justin Long, yummy.

    curious!
Whisky afficionados, consider the reason my bottle of Balvenie Doublewood tasted so bad. You've been warned! :P thanks fishball79 for the link.

J and I were going through Empire's 100 Greatest Games of All Time last night. Great fun. I'm glad they liked SNES so much, as well as many of the older games PC I remember playing (well, I had a computer that could play those fantastic games then). I think the listing of Day of the Tentacle sealed my love for that list, heh.

But hey, no Final Fantasy III (6)?

Enough excitement for the day. Back to work.

    And dance we did!

The New York Dolls' show at Lee's last night was stunning. It's always good when you play crowd favourites off your first few albums. Considering the majority of the crowd had about 20 years on us.

    Sylvain Sylvain makes a point

And that ends their N.Am. tour.

The Dolls played a full-length show, which meant we were home past 1am. Can't remember the last time I slept so late, old person that I am. Consuming copious amounts earlier didn't help matters either (we met with JR and Lumsden for wings-and-Rickard's-Red at Duff's for dinner). Zzz.

    happy tuesday post.
How'd it get so bloody hot all of the sudden? The past couple of weeks have felt like fall, and then over the weekend it became high summer. I got the fan out of storage last night; it was just getting too unbearable.

Foo. I'm contemplating sticking foil on the outsides of the east-facing window blinds. Great way to get back at some of the lousy neighbours across the street. :D

Except that there are also some pretty awesome neighbours across the street. Ah.

    Roscoe's a big goggie.

I'm off to school. One needs to support the institutes and centres that supports one.
